The above report looks very fascinating and impossible. You might think that its impossible to stay healthy, but it’s not.
The action those taken during the earlier period of life is the reason for the health crises in the future.
If someone is suffering from heart disease in their mid-age, then the reason behind those problems is many years of unhealthy eating and a sedentary lifestyle.
The same case is with Type 2 diabetes and other age-related health problem which are common these days.
Have you expected to suffer from any health problem?
You might be aware of the current health statistics.
Till the 20s – High Energy level, the lowest risk of health problems.
Between the 20s to 30s – Many gains weight, lose energy, lose strength, and the beginning of health problem.
Between the 30s to 40s – Weight gain, feel something isn’t good about the body and some health problem might be on the way.
Between the 40s to 50s – Health problems get stronger when proper care wasn’t taken.
And the health problems continue, severity and other problems follow. Now lots of stress are due to health problems, medication and its side-effects, low energy, and not able to do things you planned to do after retirement.
The above estimation might be clear enough to understand the rising health problem with age — it’s due to an unhealthy modern lifestyle and it shouldn’t be the norm.
Age doesn’t necessarily mean one will suffer from health problems.
Look at the population of healthiest people in the Blue Zone. There are still many people who don’t suffer modern lifestyle health issues even in their 80s.
With such living examples, why not be the healthiest and enjoy life like them, without the barrier of age or demographics.
To achieve the goal you have to break many barriers. I have listed the most common barrier to kickstart your journey.
The mental barrier:
The first — mental barrier. The mental barrier is the common reason for a major failure, overcoming it will provide us with a positive attitude.
Let’s look at the common mental barrier.
It’s not possible: I am not recommending to do something that isn’t possible. There are many people who enjoy their life fullest still stay healthy in their old age. You can have a look over the people living in Ikaria (Greece), Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia (Italy), Loma Linda (California) and Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica). If they are able to live a healthy and longer life then its even possible with you so stop limiting the belief that it isn’t possible to stay healthy.
It’s nature’s law: All those who came to life will die. No one can control death or any event that is not in our hand, but still what happens to our health will depend on the action we take. It’s natural as time pass, a year adds, but that doesn’t mean you should lose health and energy. It’s still possible to stay healthy and enjoy the energy those in the 20s or 30s.
Have To Make Sacrifices: Have you moved your eyebrows when you heard to take actions to stay healthy? Spending time with a friend or watching TV is considered best than spending time in the gym or on physical activity. Eating fast foods is considered enjoyable than eating nutrient-rich foods. And there are many such assumptions of sacrifices are made in mind — they’re the imaginary belief, not a real case.
Lack of Resource: Lack of resource is another hurdle while achieving a fitness or health goal. Like the earlier barrier, letting it go has the same importance as it can stop you from taking any action, thus no progress is made.
I don’t have enough: Often the healthiest food is marketed to be the costliest stuff, doing a workout is associated with costly gym membership; if there is enough to spend then lack of time will be in the list. The problem may not be with the availability of resource but the lack of willpower to take the first step and keep up with the effort.
I don’t have healthy genetics: Many people believe that everything that happens is controlled by genes so we can’t do anything to avoid or reverse it. Everything isn’t controlled by the gene but it’s — what you sow is what you reap.
A healthy routine increase burden in life: If someone has been living a very inactive lifestyle surely they will fell tough to get out of comfort zone. They fell hard to stay active or dedicate toward fitness.
If someone has been eating processed food loaded with taste enhancer and additives then it will be hard to accept the natural taste of food. They have built up their mind that food should taste like processed food is designed, and they find healthy foods a boring treat. They consider eating healthy as a sacrifice so they aren’t able to take decisions to switch. It’s natural, anyone will give fightback for the food they like or the food that provide them with pleasure and happiness (a short-term and fake).
Lack of health and motivation to take action can be summed into two;
1. Lack of Nutrients, not Food
Food is the source of energy and nutrients responsible for better health. Earlier people ate natural and minimally processed food. Those foods were abundant in energy and nutrients. But in the past few decade things changed, food was made available in mass, at low cost, making an abundant supply of food.
During those decades the focus was made on making the availability of foods rather than the nutrients. If you still look many aren’t aware of the food and nutrients they are eating. They eat because certain things are labelled as food, or marketed as eatable, and are tasty.
Food was made available to mass but the quality of food decreased. Those food were rich in calories but the vital nutrients kept on decreasing.
Do you know a whole food, considering vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, etc., are loaded with plant compound which is not known completely but they plays important role in providing protection form health problem?
When we look at the food we consider Vitamin A, C, E, K or other known vitamin and minerals, but miss their plant’s compounds which are more potential giving those food unique properties. Each food possesses some or the other compound that makes them highly appreciable.
If you consider eating processed food, you get the most common know nutrients (even they are removed and added) but lack of plant compound which make certain food unique.
Consider, if you drink apple juice you miss major of nutrients those lost with its peel and even you get added sugar, thus more energy (calories) but fewer nutrients.
Same is with processed corn products considered with whole corn. You will find many such cases of food being degraded from its natural state, thus losing its beneficial property leaving them with high calorie, which is not good for health.
Now the most important problem is;
- More food intake, more calorie but low nutrient,
- Larger serving but less satiety,
- Food is blamed thus major cut from the diet, creating more problem
2. Lack of Purpose
Lack of purpose — they’re the foundation of problem and solution.
Earlier the purpose of eating food was to get energy and other nutrients to maintain health. When the sole purpose was connected to health, it was taken care to eat right.
But in the past few decades, the purpose to eat has changed. Now, people eat food to follow a routine, coverup hunger and enjoy the taste.
The purpose of eating food changed, from health to pleasure. Now food is the source to get taste and flavor whether it may be a food or just eatables.
Like the above concern, there are many things that have impact on your energy, health, and longevity. If you begin to take care of what you eat, you will conquer major health problem and start a healthier life.
Choosing a healthier life is not a sacrifice,
- It’s about enjoying the same energy even at the 80s.
- It’s about living a life without depending on any medicine or medical care.
- It’s about the strength you possess in the 80s to do the activities you want to do without the barrier of age.
- And even it’s about enjoying to an extent that it doesn’t harm present or future health condition.
When you weigh the benefits you get in future, you won’t consider eating healthy and limiting fast food as a sacrifice. From that moment you start to make healthier changes and it will be reflected in your 80s in the form of a healthier life.
Everyone deserves better energy and healthier life. No burden of quitting foods as prescribed by the doctor due to a health issue, or any harsh treatment procedure. Energy to enjoy retirement.
But all these starts from today, at an early age – as its the time to set a better foundation for health.
