As a dragon ball fan, I like to share the message which I learned from the series. It’s rare that you haven’t heard about it; if not, you can even read the article.
Dragon ball is about building and nurturing a friendship.
It is one of the most popular anime around the world. It starts with character name Goku, who is on the pursuit to get stronger.
The story is wrapped with deep messages, yet many consider it’s about fighting—in the beginning, in the middle and at the end. Yes! You will get many episodes of training and fighting.

What Hooked Me?
I had watched a few episodes a long back but didn’t bother to start with the whole series. But a fight scene between Goku and Jiren from the Tournament of Power got me hooked. Both were the best fighter in their respective universe—yet Jiren was stronger than Goku. The hope on the shoulder and trust of his friends motivates Goku to push him further.
The scene and dialogue will give goosebumps…
During a fierce fight, Goku was down for a while but manage to stand up.
“Impossible, you shouldn’t have any stamina,” said Jiren
“Jiren, it ain’t over yet.”, said Goku
“How? How can you stand after being beaten so many time, Son Goku?”, asks Jiren with being shocked by his persistence.
“No 17 and Vegeta and everyone else is trusting me. I swear on their faith, I can never back down now!”, said Goku.
“Silence. Such things are meaningless before my power.”, Jiren shouts in anger.
The fight continues. Jiren’s best attack wasn’t effective against Goku.
“This is our power, Jiren.”, said Goku
“Who cares about friendship? Who cares about trust,” said Jiren, “To accept that would be to deny everything that I’ve ever been. I don’t believe in such power. Such a thing…” With rage, he attacks Goku’s friend. and said, “…Is easily erased.”
Goku blocks the attack.
“You…!” Goku gets furious about the Jiren’s act.
“The power you believed in is easily erased. Just like that.”, Jiren said.
“I don’t think I’m a hero of justice or anything. But, those who’d hurt my friends… I won’t forgive!” Goku said, and attacks Jiren with all his strength.
And, the battle continues where Goku surpasses his previous strength barrier and proves to be a tough challenge for Jiren.
It was the moment, I got hooked into Dragon Ball.
The Viewpoint
Goku, the character playing the lead role; is on the journey to be the strongest.
The first angle…
He trains to get stronger. Fight and lose—learns a lesson—again train harder—fight and win—again work to get stronger—with a never satisfying hunger to improve.
The second angle…
He gets strong to protect the one he cares. Instead of being the strongest person in the universe, he owns the heart of a child—No rage or greed. Don’t believe in harming even his enemies—a reason he charms everyone.

Goku and His Friend
The story is about friends helping each other to live to their potential. They are present during the tough time and celebrate every moment.
Goku begins the journey with Bulma. He meets many other friends who become part of his life. And the story continues to meet his master who was going to help him realize his potential. The training starts with Krillin, who competes to get better than Goku. The fire to surpass each other made their friendship stronger.
At the end of first world champion tournament, Goku realized his bond towards Krillin—when Krillin dies in a fight. With the hope to bring Krillin back to life—he starts his journey, that risked his life. He pushed harder risking everything and bring Krillin back and other people as well.
Every time on the edge of losing someone or the loss, made him push beyond his limit.
Like Krillin, he had many people’s in his life: Bulma, Master Roshi, Vegeta—as a friend, a Mentor, or a Rival friend. These people weren’t only his friend, but also a family—when he was all alone after his grandfather died. They became part whom he can’t imagine to lose. All together, they built an indestructible bond with no condition of bloodline or race—a bond that even the god admired.
Their World
The world of Dragon Ball has few things that make it extraordinary.
First is Goku, who builds relation with everyone whom he comes across.
Second the Dragon Balls, which can do anything. It has power resurrect a dead person or even the planet.
These two are the connecting point of their world. With Goku’s pure heart and Dragon ball’s power—they show a new direction on how to live a life.
Our World
No dragon ball…
Yes, we don’t have any dragon ball to resurrect anyone we lose. [We have many chances but, no one knows when it will be the last.]
But…
We have Goku, Krillin, Bulma, Vegeta and other characters in our life. And the power to be the change and support in each other’s life.
Goku from our and their world, have few things in common. He might not own superhuman strength but own a good heart and caring nature.
Like Goku, we all have someone who cares about us. We all have that type of people and we should cherish them. If you don’t have one, then be the one.
Also, you can make…
- Friends like — Krillin, Bulma
- Mentor — Master Roshi
- Rival Friend— Vegeta
- Turn enemy into a friend — Tian, Vegeta, Piccolo, Hit, Jiren, Android 18 and 19.
Cherish every person in your life. They are the person who will help you to achieve your potential. You might be taking the whole effort to make progress, but they will be behind you, cheering you to make progress, and celebrate your success. They will be part of your journey.
We got a small life, but we can make it large with these people—sharing each other struggles and success.
We might not have the superhuman strength like Goku, but have a pure heart like him.
We might not have a dragon ball, but we have the opportunity to prevent such a situation.
As every one of our family and friends is vulnerable and there is no undoing, we need to take care of each other. We grow and we perish, it’s nature’s law. Nature’s law can’t be changed, but one thing can be, it’s our action. It’s our responsibility to protect and nourish our loved one.
What We Can Do?
Realize the importance of each person in your life. Take care of those people and keep on building memories.
There is no perfect time than we have today. Now is what everyone controls. We can’t control the future, so it’s best to enjoy the present time. Make time and keep on creating moments of life—those you can cherish later.
