It will be helpful to learn a bit about supplements. Because lots of supplements are available and its a confusing topic.
If you look at few supplements promises, you would feel that you won’t get result without them.
Before making your mind to use supplement, let’s have a small talk over it.
The Real Meaning of Term — “Supplement”
Nutrition world is confusing and with those confusion it’s hard to know the fact.
To avoid any confusion.
Let’s look at the true meaning of the word, from the dictionary.
“something that is added to something else in order to improve it or complete it; something extra”
“a medicine that contains substances that you need to stay healthy in addition to what you get in your food”
As per both definition, you can get the actual meaning of supplement.
Supplement is an additional medium to receive nutrients you miss from food. Yes — When you miss some nutrient.
Depending on supplement in not good. Nothing can replace real food. At least, in the coming few decades. If you’re planning to take supplement or been taking — consider it as supplement not a meal replacement.
There are lots of meal replacement available but you don’t need any of those products.
Supplement is a vast topic. It’s impossible to cover everything in a short video. But I will cover the essentials.
Before getting started, you should know that real food is the primary source of nourishment. By making right food choices you will get enough nutrients from food.
Knowing and using supplement should be secondary thought. If you know how a food combination works and your needs, you know enough. You can add supplement if your diet lack certain nutrient. But there is a piece of advice.
Suppose you’re using supplement that doesn’t means you have to completely depend on them.
Let’s get clear idea about I mean to say.
Suppose, you live in region where there is no enough sunlight for months, you might lack vitamin D. Looking for good source of Vitamin D should be primary choice and also take supplement.
Suppose there is lack of vitamin and minerals in your diet. You might get symptoms of deficiency. Consult doctor as well as dietitian. Your doctor will help you get back in no time. While dietician will guide you to make right food choice.
In both cases, we’re using supplements for particular condition.
Let’s look at other condition.
Whey protein is also a supplement. It’s good and healthy, no doubt. But that doesn’t mean you need to over-depend or over-spend on them.
If you’re just beginner and have balanced diet, you won’t need it.
While if you’re trying to achieve certain goal you can try.
Also, if you’re busy and sometime miss meal, you can try.
You can get enough protein from meal. If you’re not getting enough protein from meal you should use supplement smartly. As you know excess protein are dumped, then why waste money.
Real foods are nutritionally balanced and they are budget friendly. Also, nothing can replace real food.
Same case is with other nutrients, whether it may be mass gainer, or healthy fat pills. You can try, but first try to get from real food.
You can surely take supplement but first look at your meal. If you’re getting enough then don’t take. If you lack certain nutrient then take help of supplement.
If you want my view — a smart meal plan will cut the need of supplements. While under certain condition you can consult dietician. They will help you plan better meal and also let you know whether you need supplement or not.
